Why keep Davis open for all?
en Espaņol

When Davis OPEN was founded on Martin Luther King Day (Monday, January 15, 2007), Valley Oak Elementary School was the only neighborhood elementary school in Davis facing the danger of closure. That is why the online petition statement, which Davis OPEN started circulating on Thursday, January 18, read that Valley Oak should remain open like every other neighborhood school in Davis.

As of Friday, January 19, Fred T. Korematsu Elementary School was facing a similar danger. While we were not able to change the text of our online petition because of the rules set by http://www.thepetitionsite.com, we revised the hard copy of our petition statement on Saturday, January 20, which reads that Korematsu and Valley Oak should remain open like every other neighborhood school in Davis.

The number of signatures we collected in hard copy and online exceeded 1,600 within two months. We thank our signatories who saved Korematsu and share their frustration that some of the trustees of the Davis Joint Unified School District chose on March 19, 2007, not to listen to their voice regarding Valley Oak.
